Gabbiani Verdi Protocol: Sustainable Hospitality
Home |

In line with the goals of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the GVR (Gabbiani Verdi) protocol has been adopted.

Developed in collaboration with a Certification Body recognized by Accredia, the GVR protocol aims to assess specific areas of environmental and social impact of the hotels and resorts included in our offering.

A specialized team conducts on-site inspections to verify compliance with numerous parameters, summarized in nine macro-areas.

What are the evaluation criteria used to assess the properties?
Each property has been evaluated based on these 9 macro-areas:

Respect for human rights and working conditions
It is essential that tourism contributes to a more equitable distribution of income and enables people not only to live with dignity but also to access education, training, and protection during working hours.

Health and safety in the workplace
To fall within the scope of the GVR protocol, hospitality facilities must ensure a safe and healthy working environment and adopt effective measures to prevent potential accidents, injuries, or illnesses that may occur during or as a result of work.

Environmental impact
Environmental protection is a prerequisite for human well-being and development. Every decision and activity of a hospitality facility can have a direct or indirect impact on the environment. It is therefore important that the decision-making process considers the effects that products used—throughout their entire life cycle—may have.

Sustainable procurement
Supplier selection is a strategic aspect for businesses like hospitality facilities that purchase goods and resources in large quantities. It is therefore important to increasingly choose solutions that support the circular economy and ensure fair wages for all actors in the supply chain.

Sustainable economic development

To be sustainable, the facility must not only pursue a circular economy model but also develop long-term policies capable of working steadily on macroeconomic indicators such as the employment level, the guarantee of pension plans for workers, and the promotion of long-term infrastructure.

Involvement and development of the local community

The facility must play an active role in creating the well-being of the entire community, also through the creation of social services and infrastructure that allow everyone to improve their lifestyle from a cultural, physical, and mental point of view.

Communication towards customers

Clarity and transparency about the facility’s level of sustainability are important evaluation criteria in the selection process; equally important is that more and more procedures are activated within the facilities to minimize environmental impact (e.g. electric means of transport, organic cleaning products, etc.) and also to make it easier for customers to comply with national and international regulations for the protection of the planet (e.g. tools for proper waste recycling, plastic reduction, etc.).

Efficient facility management protocols

Facilities must implement proper management practices to ensure the total safety of workers and guests. It is also important that training and refresher courses on procedures are carried out and that working hours and the tools for their implementation are guaranteed.

Data protection and cybersecurity

It is important that the hotel pays the utmost attention to cybersecurity and the protection of customers’ personal information and data in order to ensure maximum safeguarding.
